WHAT A COOKIE IS?
A cookie is an inoffensive text file that gets stored when you visit any website. It helps the website to remember how you use it when you visit it again. Many people do not know it but websites use them since 20 years ago, when first browsers appeared for the World Wide Web.
WHAT IS NOT A COOKIE?
Is not a virus or a Trojan, neither a network worm, is not even spam or spyware, nor it opens pop-up windows.
WHICH TYPE OF INFORMATION DOES A COOKIE STORE?
Cookies do not store sensitive information about you, as credit card or banking data, pictures, ID Cards or personal information, etc. Data stored have a technical nature like personal preferences in the website, content customization, etc.
Web server associates your web browser; it does not identify you as a person. In fact, if you often navigate with Internet Explorer and you try another browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome) to navigate the same website you will see that the website would not realise that you are the same person.
TYPE OF COOKIES
- Technical cookies: These ones are the most elementals, and they help the website to recognise and differentiate between a human user and an automatic application, or between a registered and a not registered user, that means basic tasks for the proper functioning of any dynamic web.
- Analysis cookies: They held information about what preferences do you have when you are using the website; which sections do you visit more, which products do your search for, the chosen language, etc.
- Advertising cookies: They show publicity depending on your type of web navigation, on your country, on your language, etc.
